About Craft Australia
Craft Australia is the national advocacy organisation representing professional Australian craft and design at a national and international level. The organisation has been celebrating the achievements of Australian professional craft practice for over thirty years.
In 2003 Craft Australia reviewed its primary operations to focus on the following key objectives.
Research
Undertake craft specific research in order to define the sector, map changes and trends in practice and determine productivity and returns to the sector.
Advocacy
Promote the achievements of the sector both nationally and internationally and advocates for the sector based on the findings of the research data.
Communication and debate
Initiate craft and design specific discussions by and about the sector through forums, publications and lectures. The Forums are a national voice for the sector, drawing on representatives from all areas of the craft and design industry including commercial and public galleries, education organisations, industry representatives and practitioners. The forum is a vehicle to define issues and scope the needs of the sector, develop policy and drive new ways forward in the advancement of Australian contemporary craft and design.
Education
Engage with all levels of the education system to increase understanding about the relevance of craft and design specific training.
Craft Australia develops and manages a range of projects which are achieved through strategic and financial partnerships with the craft sector, Australian government bodies and agencies including the Australia Council for the Arts, AUSTRADE, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and the Department of Communications Information Technology and the Arts.
