Bianca Looney

Bianca develops work that employs the 'landscape' as an element of inspiration, symbol and metaphor. Her work includes sculpture, ceramics, textiles, graphic and product design and urban design interventions.

Bianca's interdisciplinary practice stems from education in the fields of visual arts and landscape architecture and has led her to work in The Netherlands with the landscape/urban design office West 8 (2000-2001).

Recently returning from the European Ceramic Work Centre (NL) Bianca has received equal interest from the arts and design industries for her innovative ceramic tiling systems, Z-series. Her Melbourne studio is shared with architect/designer Lucas Chirnside, and aims to stretch the intersections of research, design and production.

Recent exhibitions include: A Molecular History of Everything* (*well not everything) with Lucas Chirnside at the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art(ACCA) in Melbourne, Next Stop Milano at La Triennale di Milano design gallery and Salone Internazionale del Mobile - Salone Satellite, Milan Italy.

Bianca's most recent work, a family of 3D tiling systems called Z-series, is assisted by the Australia Council for the Arts' inaugural Maker to Manufacture to Market grant. Bianca is currently developing the Z-series range to a market ready stage with collaborative partners in Europe and Australia.

During 2006 Z-series will be part of Freestyle: New Australian design for living, a significant national and internationally touring exhibition initiated by Object: Australian Centre for Craft and Design.
