Meet the Bloggers

Cesar Cueva

I am a metalsmith and the director of Metalab Creative Pty Ltd. I trained as an industrial designer and more recently in Gold + Silversmithing.

In late 2004 I established Metalab as a means to promote my practice. Metalwork was under-represented in Sydney and I decided to house Metalab in inner city Sydney and to broaden the scope of my business. Metalab {Studio + Gallery} was born.

Metalab aims to provide an accessible exhibiting platform for craftspeople and designers at varying stages of their professional practice. It is a space that inspires innovation and creates opportunities for networking, commission work and artistic development.

In March 2006 Metalab Creative was born in order to work more closely with industry. The concept for Metalab Creative is to design and develop products, undertake interior design projects and co-ordinate off-site exhibitions. Metalab Creative gives us the opportunity to introduce our stable of artists to a broader viewing public.

In August 2006 we will unveil a newly designed gallery and workshop facility and, to coincide with the Sydney Design Festival, our first year anniversary party. Eckard Buscher and I will have our first exhibition after having formed a design partnership earlier this year.
